Hydra, one breath away from Athens, is one of the most ideal island for family tourism, its lack of vehicles or wheels and the closed organised beaches with shallow waters making the island safe. Parents can feel safe about their kids and enjoy, apart from the activites, the relaxation of the vacation along with their children.

Over the last years family tourism has been increased, not only because there is safety on the island but also because there are many rooms to let inside the town of Hydra, but also at the outskirts coastal locations of Mandraki, Kaminia and Vlychos.

 Accommodation in the town

You can stay with your family in triple or 4-bed rooms or in apartments of 5 persons, in guesthouses near the port or up the hill with unlimited port and sea view.

Hydra is surrounded by crystal clear and clean waters. The are smooth beaches and places for swimming, sea sports, fishing and some of these places are ideal for children, as they are safe.

You can go to the most remote and desolate beaches, whose beauty and wilderness cut your breath, with kaikia (small traditional boats) or with sea taxis departing daily from the main port.

Inside the town you will have the chance to walk through the cobblestone narrow streets with the small shops, the traditional Hydraian houses and continue towards the port with the pictursque shops and relax in a cafe in front of the sea.

It's worth visiting the Historic-File museum, the Ecclesiastic-Vyzantine museum, the historical mansions of Lazaros and Georgios Koutouriotis, which are now museums.

For dining, there are restaurants in the harbor or on cool terraces with lovely views, taverns and grill shops in the picturesque narrow streets by the beach or in front of the port, offering Mediterranean and traditional Greek cuisine, prepared with local produce, fresh fish, squid, octopus , various seafood and herbs from Hydra mountains.

Accommodation at Mandraki

Mandraki is a small moorage with amazing sand, the only one in Hydra without pebbles. You can reach Mandraki after a 25 min. walk from the port of Hydra or by sea taxis in 3 minutes or by small boats in 8 minutes (specific schedules every half an hour).

Mandraki was the old war port of the island, its entrance had two small castles full of cannons. Todya you will find remains of these castles.

Mandraki is a very quiet location that offers relaxed and peaceful family vacations in front of the sea. It has got an organised sandy beach ideal for sea games and sports and also with shallow, safe waters for children.

There are villas with apartments to rent, one hotel which is out of operation temporary and a traditional taverna, all in front of the sea.

Accommodation in Kamini

Along the coastal road, 10 min. after Avlaki, we reach Big Kamini, a smal natural fishport full of fishboats. There, to the small port, you will find the old house of Miaoulis "the red house", where many art exhibitions holds place each summer.

Right next Big Kamini there is Small Kamini, a beautiful small organised and pebbled beach with a beach bar, ideal for small children and swimming. In Kaminia, place for family tourism, there are rooms to let, apartments to let and picturesque tavernas.

Accommodation at Vlychos

Continuing the dirt covered coastal road, after 10 minutes we reach the coastal beautiful settlement of Vlychos, with magical view and amazing sunsets, ideal for family tourism.

The whitewashed houses with flowery gardens spread to the foot of the hill above the beach. Among them, the quaint seaside chapels of St. Charalambos at the plateau of the peak of a rock emerging from the sea, and the one of the Saints Karpou and Papylou (1815) and St. Paraskevi which dominates the tempest tall rock by the beach, offering a unique and magnificent spectacle.

One of the most beautiful and organised beaches of Hydra is the organised and picturesque beach of Vlychos with gray pebbles and crystal clear waters, suitable for young children. Nearby there are picturesque taverns with fresh fish and traditional food and apartments to let for families.

After the small port of Vlychos, you will find the coastal settlement of Plakes Vlychou, a beautiful and organised beach with blue and clean waters. A few meters from the sea you will find a Hotel with a bar and a restaurant, where you can enjoy cool juices and delicious dishes.
