The beaches

The beautiful beaches with the grey color of the rocks and the blue of the sea, give to Hydra a natural wild beauty and make it the ideal place for inspiration and creation.

Hydra has got a lot of beaches with rocks or sand and pebbles.  You have got access to them on foot, with donkeys or sea transportation means. Common characteristic of these beaches are the crystal clear blue waters.

In Spilia, in Hydroneta and Avlaki someone can go by feet, as they are just minutes away from the port of Hydra.

Close to the harbour is a beautiful rocky area with deep blue water, called "Spilia", which is ideal for diving. Some rocks can be used for sunbathing.

Next lies Hydronetta, which is located to the most beautiful place, under the cannons and on the rocks, to the same area as Spilia. You can also deep dive here and sunbathe on the cemented rocks.

After Hydronetta there is Avlaki, one amazing small beach full of pebbles which is lighted at the night. You descend from some stairs right after Hydronetta and you meet the beach with blue green waters and sunbathe places.

To the three above beaches you can go on foot, as they are only a few minutes away from the main port of Hydra. Also you can go to all the above beaches with a sea taxi or tourist's boats and small boats.

Following the coastal road, we reach Kamini, one small and natural port full of fishing boats. Right next to it, there is Small Kamini, a beautiful small pebbled beach, ideal for children and sea games. At Kaminia, place for family tourism, there are rooms to rent and tavernas.

Continuing the soily coastal road, we reach the beautiful, coastal settlement of Vlychos, with magical views and magnificent sunsets, which also is ideal for family tourism. Bright white cottages and houses with spacious, full of flowers yards, are spread out and reach the hills above the beach.

Among them, the quaint seaside chapels of St. Charalambos at the plateau of the peak of a rock emerging from the sea, and the one of the Saints Karpou and Papylou (1815) and St. Paraskevi which dominates the tempest tall rock by the beach, offering a unique and magnificent spectacle.

One of the most beautiful and organised beaches of Hydra is the organised and picturesque beach of Vlychos with gray pebbles and crystal clear waters, suitable for young children. Nearby there are picturesque taverns with fresh fish and traditional food and refreshment shops for coffee and drinks.

After the small port of Vlychos, you will find the coastal settlement of Plakes Vlychou, a beautiful and organised beach with blue and clean waters. A few meters from the sea you will find a Hotel with a bar and a restaurant, where you can enjoy cool juices and delicious dishes.

Leaving Vlychos, after 20 min. of hiking and crossing a 17th century old bridge, we reach the coastal area of Palamida, a beautiful and sandy beach. There you will find the Manor of Voulgaris and the house that Kapoudan pasas lived. Close to the Palamida beach there is a place to repaire boats and further the remotly beach of Saint Kiprianos.

After Palamida, there is Molos, a close and quiet cove with a beatiful pebbbled beach, 70 minutes from the main port of Hydra.

After Molos there is Kaoumithi, a non organised beautiful beach with large sand. Bisti is a cove at the northern of the island, surrounded by tall rocks. It is an organised beach ideal for water sports, deep diving and scuba diving, next to the pine tree forest.

Next beach, close to Bisti cove, is the beautiful beach of Saint George, quiet and non organised, between two pine-clad heels. There is the small church of the named Saint.

From the northern side of the island, we reach the cove of Saint Nikolaos. An organised beach eith pebbles and crystal clear waters and scuba diving. There are there sun decks and unbrellas with tables, beach bar with beverages and fast food and pine trees with shade. At some point there is also sand to play the kids.

East there is Nisiza, a beautiful pebbled beach, non organised, in a cove, surrounded by pine trees. Next is Klimaki, a big beach, non organised, with pebbles and crystal waters, with some cottages and small Churches.

After the "Spilia tis Fokias" and "Rigas" , we are to the most beautiful beach, Limnioniza, with pebbles, non organised, which is offered for scuba diving.

After Zouvra we reach Mandraki, the old port, where its entrance was protected by two small cannons. In Mandraki there is a beutiful beach, the only in Hydra without pebbles. The beach is organised with water sports, beach bar, taverns and a hotel.

It is located only a few minutes from the port of Hydra island and you can go to Mandraki either by walking or with a sea taxi from the main port.

What they say about us

Simply amazing

My friend and I stopped in for an appetizer, and we got the saganaki shrimp. It was very delicious, and service was exceptional.

Nice restaurant

I really recommend this cosy restaurant. Nice wiev down to the port, lovely staff and very good service. I am not a found of fish, but the waiter recommended the sea bream for an appetizer. It was so good, you must try it. Very tasteful pepper steak. The cocktail they serve are very good, try the one called veranda.

Great views, great service & great food

My husband and I went here for dinner while in Hydra and it did not disappoint! The views are amazing, the staff is friendly and the food is fantastic! Highly recommend!

Superb Setting, and Food Isn't Bad, Either

Once you navigate the stairs, which can be challenging, this is a marvelous place with splendid vistas, great food and wonderful candle lit ambiance. Our dinner was great and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. But, my caution about the stairs is real! They are super challenging both at the front door and at the back. The back stairs are really scary, so do be careful.

Relaxed evening

A lovely relaxed meal experience, good service, no rushing to get you finished through the meal. We had spicy octopus which was beautiful and a Greek salad, always a winner. Main course we had pasta dishes, both were lovely. The view from the restaurant is stunning and watching the moon rise over the hill will be a sight to remember

Romantic dinner!

My husband and I had a lovely and romantic dinner at the Veranda. We had an amazing view of the harbor while we drank the best cocktails we had in Hydra. The service was attentive and the food was great. We had numerous Greek salads on our trip but this was the freshest and best prepared. My husband had a grilled salmon steak that was flavorful and buttery. Highly recommended.

Best View for Lunch overlooking the Harbor

The food at the Veranda Restaurant is very good, and the prices are very good too. Try the roasted chicken and Greek Salad. Sit in the sun or under the shade.

High and nice!

This place is a bit of a steep walk but worth it! We ate here twice and early so we had no problem with seating. The food was wonderful and it was a very nice view! The staff was friendly and helpful!

great food-great view!

Had dinner at veranda restaurant on our 2nd day in Hydra; if we knew better we would have had dinner both nights! Great view, great food, amazing dessert! Keep in mind that it is a little bit more expensive than the tourist restaurants but it's worth it!

Fabulous! Great service, good views (but not great)

We ate here based on Rick Steves recommendations and we were not disappointed. The 'grilled vegetables' were done perfectly. We then had the swordfish, which was exemplary. What is truly nice about this restaurant is that they 'stage' the food as you eat it. Everything does NOT come at once Which is a BIG PLUS. Views of the Port are good but not exemplary. The wait staff is better than very good! They treat you as a VALUED customer not as a 'mark'. We loved this place!

Last Night Magic!

This was our last night in Hydra after two fantatic weeks on this wonderful island. We thought we had covered all aspects of dining here but no, the best was left till last. We arrived before sunset and were given a wonderful table overlooking the beautiful harbour. As the sun went down and the harbour began to light up, it was an everchanging show of unbelievable beauty. The service here is impeccable, and the food sublime. We could not fault it. We shared a Greek salad after receiving two amuse bouche which were so tasty. Our mains were pork fillet and chicken with tomatoes and olives which were perfection. We enjoyed a lovely red wine from Crete at a reasonable price. In fact the complete dinner, including two desserts, and complimentary liquors, only came to 60 euros. We were kicking ourselves that it was the only night we did not have a camera to capture the candle lit terrace. So treat yourselves at least once on your visit to Hydra. You won't regret it. Cannot wait to return.

Always a great experience.

When we have our annual holiday in Hydra, we come to the Veranda for our special night(s) out. It is a fantastic location, overlooking the port, and mainly candlelit. White table cloths, and generally a lovely atmosphere. The food is mainly Italian, and is beautifully cooked and presented. The staff are all excellent, and very friendly. The only downside is the very steep staircase to reach the restaurant, but it is well worth the climb.

Fine food and views to die for

It was a bit of a climb up steep stairs to this restaurant but once there the climb was very much worth it:what a beautiful spot with wonderful views across the town and harbour! There was a great sense of peace. Service was excellent and friendly. The food was delightful and very reasonably priced. I could not recommend this place more highly. wonderful!
